Pejman Mowlaee was born in Bandar Anzali, Iran, in March 1983. He received his Electrical Engineering B.Sc. with distinction from Guilan University, Iran in 2005 and his M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering and signal processing with distinction from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2007. He was a teaching and research assistant from 2007 till 2008 at Information theory and data processing lab at Tehran Polytechnic working with  Prof. Hamid Sheikhzadeh. He received his Ph.D. degree at Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark in 2010 where he was a research assistant at Multimedia and information signal processing (MISP) under supervision of  Prof. Søren Holdt Jensen and  Prof. Mads Græsbøll Christensen. From January 2011 till September 2012 he was a Marie Curie post-doctoral fellow for Digital Signal Processing in Audiology (AUDIS) at Institute of Communication Acoustics (IKA), Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB), Germany, coordinated by Prof. Rainer Martin. Between 2012-2017, he has been an assistant professor at signal processing and speech communication laboratory (SPSC lab) at Graz University of Technology in Graz, Austria. He received the Venia Docendi (Privatdozent) in speech signal processing from Graz University of Technology, Austria in 2017.

Mr.Mowlaee has received several awards during his academic career, to name a few: Young researcher's Award for his M.Sc. study in 2005-2006 at Iran University of Science and Technology, outstanding researcher at Amirkabir University of Technology in 2008-2009. He was awarded the best M.Sc. thesis in the nation-wide contest among all electrical students with best thesis price awarded by “National Scientific Students' Organization of Electrical Engineering" (NSOEE)” in 2007. His PhD work was supported by the Marie Curie EST-SIGNAL Fellowship during 2009-2010. He was Selected as Elite in the country by “National Elite Association” in 2009.

He was a part of the organizing comittee for EUSIPCO 2010 in Aalborg and AUDIS workshop 2012 in Aachen. He is active reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Elsevier Digital Signal Processing, Elsevier Speech Communication Journals, EURASIP and reviewer for ICASSP, EUSIPCO and INTERSPEECH conferences. Pejman Mowlaee is a senior member of IEEE. He was co-organizer for special session "Phase Importance in Speech Processing" held at INTERSPEECH 2014 in Singapore (details here). He is the guest editor for the special issue on Phase-Aware Signal Processing in Speech Communication in Elsevier (details here). He is the project leader for the Einzelprojekte project number P28070-N33 from the Austrian Science Fund. He is the author of the book "Phase-Aware Signal Processing in Speech Communication: Theory and Practice" in John Wiley & Sons 2016 (see ISCApad).
