The course begins with a review of basic information-theoretic quantities such as entropy, informational divergence, and mutual information. The first advanced topic is data compression, including rate-distortion theory and distributed source coding. The second advanced topic deals with channel coding, including multi-access and broadcast channels. The third advanced topic deals with randomness and secrecy. Time-permitting, topics related to large networks will be discussed, e.g., the cut-set bound.
