Abstract

This paper is designed to examine issues concerning the optimisation of room acoustics in listed buildings. To this end, we will look at the headquarters of the Joanneum Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, located at Leonhardstraße 59, Graz, as some of the rooms require improvement in terms of acoustics. The rooms dealt with in this paper include the great conference room, the meeting room, the entrance hall including the reception, the social room and the meeting point. The main aim is the reduction of the reverberation time as well as optimising the speech transmission quality. For this purpose, the room acoustics were measured using the MLS measurement method. Furthermore, all rooms were simulated using the CATT–Acoustic software. The data obtained were then used to suggest solutions including the approximate costs.
