In modern digital communication receivers digital implementations of infinite impulse respose filter (IIR filter) is in big importance. Due to restriction of chip area and power consumption, fixed point arithmetic is prefered which does result into quantization of the filter coefficients thus induce quantizaqtion errors.

This thesis investigates the advantages of global omtpimization methods using heuristic algorithms to reduce the quantization error, filter order, and hence chip area and power consumption.
