The object of this thesis is data transmission using Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology. This technology is characterised by high bandwith and low power spectral density.

The central assignment is to emulate the ultra wide band radio channel using an audio transmission channel. The resulting system should make it possible to examine different transmission technologies in early stages of development avoiding high expense.

A further aim of the thesis is to characterise the audio channel. The investigations show analogies in propagation of acoustic and electromagnetic waves. For that reason the acquired data have been statistically evaluated and compared to existing research results for radio frequency (RF) UWB channels.
